Umar Kamaal Farooqui is a lawyer with a demonstrated history of working in Public Policy, Government Affairs and International Law in India and the UK. Possessing dual qualifications in law from India and England, he was called to the Bar of England & Wales as a Barrister by the prestigious Lincoln’s Inn, London. Combining legal expertise with a background in business management, journalism and public policy in Economics, Umar brings a unique multidisciplinary skill set to his work.

As the spearhead of Strategy and Global disputes at 52 Gates, Umar provides adept strategic counsel in complex multi-jurisdictional legal disputes. He is well-regarded for his expertise in public policy honed at the Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford University, which enables him to provide strategy and advice to state governments, policymakers like Members of Parliament, Bureaucrats, and educational institutions in India and the United Kingdom. He is skilled in Negotiation, International Government Affairs and International Commercial Litigation.

Among his notable achievements, Umar facilitated and negotiated the first ever bilateral partnership between the Greater Manchester Combined Authority through its Mayor Andy Burnham and the Maharashtra State Government (India), focusing on areas of skills development, innovation, and education. He has also provided crucial business strategy to a leading fintech firm in Europe, guiding their expansion into the UK market. In a recent high profile commercial dispute case in the UK, Umar assisted the leading solicitor firm representing the appellants in case management hearings, and drafting grounds of appeal before the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.

Nigel Booth

Nigel Booth is an English Barrister having been called to the Bar in 1994 by Gray’s Inn. Since 2020.

Nigel has been training barristers at the University of Law’s Manchester campus where he is now the campus program lead. His legal career began at the government agency, the Crown Prosecution Service in the mid-1990s after 

which he practised at the independent Bar for more than 20 years from Chambers in Manchester,  first at St John’s Buildings and now at Nine Chambers (formerly 9 St John Street) where he retains his membership as an unregistered barrister whilst at the University.

At 52 Gates Nigel leads on strategy and leadership. He draws on his expertise in persuasion, strategic thinking and high-stakes decision-making to help guide clients through complex challenges. With a sharp problem-solving mindset, a talent for persuasive communication, and a deep understanding of team dynamics, he helps organisations navigate uncertainty, inspire action, and drive results.
